Whether your hot tub is to be installed on a deck, patio, in a backyard spa area or inside the house, I design and install electrical systems that are built to handle the load safely and perform reliably for years to come.

Hot tubs require a dedicated electrical circuit, proper grounding and bonding, and GFCI protection that meets current WA Residential Specialty Code and NEC requirements. I evaluate your existing electrical system to determine whether your panel has adequate capacity or if upgrades are needed.

Electrical permits and inspections are required for hot tub installations. I handle the permitting process and coordinates inspections with the local authority having jurisdiction, giving you peace of mind that your installation meets all applicable state and local requirements.

Most electrical panel and/or service changes are done for two reasons:

    1. The existing panel is too small either in Amps (main breaker size) or there is not enough physical room in the panel to add new circuits (load) needed for a remodel, upgrade, or expansion. If you do not have enough Amps in your panel, you will need to get a service upgrade. If you have enough Amps but not enough physical room in your panel, you will need to get a panel change.

    2. If the panel is one of two brands—Federal Pacific or Zinsco. These panels have lost their UL listing because they are known for the potential to cause fires. In 80% of the cases tested, the breakers won’t trip when needed, which is an obvious problem. If you have one of these panels, you should very seriously consider replacing it. Depending on the size of the Amps in the panel, you might also need to have a service change done.
